- Jessica Bell - Proprietor
- My Wine School
Entrepreneur. Wine Expert. Mom. TV Host. Writer. Traveler. Wanderer. Wonderer.
After studying Economics at Duke and working in investment banking on Wall Street with Goldman Sachs, at 25, Jessica had her quarter-life crisis. Living just blocks away from 9/11's ground zero in downtown Manhattan, Jessica began to rethink what she wanted from life.
In 2003, she quit her job, subleased her apartment and sold everything (which wasn't much) and moved to Spain not knowing anyone, and with no work visa. Within a year, she found work at a Spanish winery just outside of Madrid.
In 2004, she could hear the bombs explode at Atocha train station from her flat in Madrid. Once again, life forced her to question her current path, and make a move.
She moved back to New York City, and became a Sommelier at the nation's Best New Restaurant (as per James Beard Awards), The Modern, a Danny Meyer's restaurant.
In 2006, with wine retail, restaurant and wholesaler experience in her back pocket, as well as a Diploma in Wine & Spirits from the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, Jessica founded My Wine School, a wine school servicing Chicago and Milwaukee.
For ten years, Jessica instructed everyone from wine enthusiasts to Chicago's top sommeliers. She traveled the globe becoming an expert, and certified educator of several regions, including Burgundy, Rhone, Spain and Napa Valley, among others. She became the host of two-time Emmy nominated food show, Wisconsin Foodie, and appears on local radio and TV as a wine consultant.
In 2012, she was contracted by USAID and the US State Department to develop and execute a wine education plan for the hospitality industry in the Republic of Georgia. She also started writing food and wine articles for local magazines, as well as leading annual food and wine trips to various international wine destinations.
In 2013, with the birth of her second child, she once again re-evaluated her priorities, which subsequently led to sidelining her wine school and wine writing to develop HaloVinotm glassware, which will include a return to her online wine school in January 2016.
She is so excited to share this next stage of her journey, and hopefully a (shatterproof, stackable, stemless) glass of wine with you!

Would you rather be the student or the teacher? Either way we've got you covered. My Wine School's founder, Jessica Bell, became a wine expert by reading, traveling, studying and teaching. She knows you can do the same, and wants to provide the resources to send you on your journey!

Over the year, My Wine School has evolved to address the demands of its students. From The Milwaukee Wine School (founded in 2007) which expanded to The Midwest Wine School in 2009 to serve the Chicago market, My Wine School is still based on MWS's founding principle that wine should be fun and approachable, and wine education that is not dependent on wine sales. MWS founder and owner, Jessica Bell, has tapped into her extensive wine education experience and the feedback she has received from her thousands of passionate wine students to construct a wine school that meets wine enthusiasts desire to learn how they want, when they want, and where they want.
We want to continue to hear feedback from you! Please let us know how else we can help you with your quest for wine knowledge and engagement!
